Plot Summary:

The film is set in the southern Philippines, where a U.S. Army Delta Force team embarks on a mission to rescue a CIA operative gathering intelligence on a Russian arms dealer. Captain Eddie "Reaper" Grimm (Russell Crowe), an experienced Air Force drone pilot, provides aerial support from a Reaper drone, with Staff Sergeant Nia Branson assisting.

During the operation, the team encounters fierce resistance from the Abu Sayyaf, a local militant group. The ensuing firefight results in heavy casualties, leaving Sergeant JJ Kinney (Liam Hemsworth), a young Air Force Tactical Air Control Party specialist, as the sole apparent survivor. Guided remotely by Grimm, Kinney navigates the hostile terrain toward an extraction point.

Kinney's journey is fraught with peril; he loses his weapon and is eventually captured by the militants. He discovers that Master Sergeant John "Sugar" Sweet, another member of his team, is alive. Together, they attempt to rescue Sergeant Bishop, who has been taken prisoner in a cave complex—the militants' base of operations.

Grimm coordinates a series of bombings to neutralize the enemy stronghold, scheduling three strikes at fifteen-minute intervals. As Kinney and Sweet infiltrate the base, they are captured; Sweet is executed, and Kinney is tortured. During the second bombing, Kinney survives and manages to kill the militant leader. He rescues Bishop and the CIA operative, and they make their way to safety.

The film concludes with Grimm confronting his superiors about the near-fatal miscommunication and reaffirming his commitment to his team.
