Outside (2024) is a Filipino psychological horror film directed by Carlo Ledesma, set during a zombie apocalypse. The story follows the Abel family—Francis, his wife Iris, and their sons Joshua and Lucas—as they seek refuge in Francis's childhood farmhouse on a sugarcane plantation in Negros Occidental. Upon arrival, they discover the grim fate of Francis's parents and a servant, who have committed suicide after being infected, and his mother has reanimated as a zombie. After killing his mother, the family settles into the house, but Francis is haunted by nightmares of his father's abuse in the basement and the revelation that Joshua is his brother Diego's biological son.

As the family grapples with internal tensions and the external threat of zombies, Francis's paranoia escalates. He stages an attack outside, barricades the mansion, and locks his family inside. Joshua discovers a map to a safe zone left by Diego, leading to a confrontation where Iris admits she wants to leave Francis, and Francis acknowledges Joshua is not his son. A wounded soldier named Corcuera arrives, confirming that the number of zombies is dwindling. However, Francis's erratic behavior intensifies, culminating in him killing Corcuera and locking Iris and Lucas in the basement. Later, Lucas feigns illness to lure Francis in, allowing Iris to stab him and lock him in the basement before escaping with Lucas. Francis attempts to follow but is paralyzed by flashbacks of his father confining him. Meanwhile, Iris and Lucas are chased back inside by a reanimated Diego, who bites Lucas. Francis regains his senses, escapes the basement, and kills Diego but collapses upon seeing Lucas bitten, leaving Iris to amputate his infected limb alone. Francis returns to the checkpoint to retrieve their van but is shot by a panicked Joshua, who mistakes his father for a zombie due to his bloodied appearance and stuttering. As Joshua pleads for forgiveness, Francis acknowledges him as his son before dying. Joshua then drives the van to rescue Iris and Lucas.

The film delves into themes of generational trauma, paranoia, and the psychological impacts of a post-apocalyptic world. It presents a unique take on the zombie genre, focusing more on the family's internal conflicts than external threats. Outside offers a tense and emotionally charged narrative that explores the complexities of family dynamics under extreme circumstances.
