The Platform (2019), directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, is a Spanish dystopian thriller that presents a stark allegory of social inequality and human nature. Set in a vertical prison known as the "Vertical Self-Management Center," the film follows Goreng (Iván Massagué), who voluntarily enters the facility for six months in exchange for a diploma. Upon awakening, he finds himself on level 48 with his cellmate Trimagasi (Zorion Eguileor).

The prison operates on a unique system where a platform loaded with food descends through the levels, stopping briefly at each. Inmates on higher levels have first access to the food, leaving those below with little to nothing. This setup leads to a brutal hierarchy where survival depends on one's position in the structure.

Throughout his journey, Goreng encounters various characters, including Miharu (Alexandra Masangkay), a woman searching for her child, and Imoguiri (Antonia San Juan), a former administrator who now resides in the pit. As Goreng descends to lower levels, he witnesses the extremes to which individuals go to survive, including cannibalism. The film culminates in a powerful message about solidarity and the potential for change, symbolized by Goreng's decision to send a child back up the levels, representing hope for a better future.

The Platform has been praised for its thought-provoking narrative and social commentary, earning an 81% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It gained significant attention after being released on Netflix, becoming one of the platform's most-watched original films.
